Green Space Business Award launched

13 March 2017

The first Green Space Business Awards have been presented to packaging company DS Smith.

The new award is given to businesses that demonstrate a commitment to improving parks and green spaces by volunteering and fundraising.

The award encourages businesses to take more responsibility within their local community by supporting and building relationships with community groups and, by doing so, improving the environmental standards in nearby green space through volunteering and fundraising.

DS Smith, who have supported the development of this new accreditation, were presented with the award for their ongoing commitment to supporting the parks and green spaces near their sites across the country.

DS Smith Group Health, Safety and Environment Director Mark Greenwood said:

“We strongly encourage other companies to follow our lead by supporting and preserving the parks and green spaces in the vicinity of their operations.  Through our partnership with Keep Britain Tidy we have built good relationship with local community groups across the country and have found our volunteer work , on a personal level, to be very rewarding.  If we all made a small contribution, together we can achieve great things.”

Keep Britain Tidy Chief Executive Allison Ogden-Newton said: “We are delighted to present the first Green Space Business Award to DS Smith. Over the past three years they have supported our Green Flag Awards programme and their employees have given over 340 hours of their time to volunteering in parks and green spaces. If we are to maintain the standards in our parks we need more businesses to follow the example of DS Smith and understand the vital role they can play.”
